Florida has seen 12 Powerball jackpot winners since 2013, including a $1.5 billion winning ticket sold in Melbourne Beach.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. According to USA TODAY, the “Power Play” option costs an extra $1 per play and can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5, or even 10 times. The “Double Play” option is also an additional $1 per play. Meaning that a single ticket could cost a total of $4 if both “Power Play” and “Double Play” are selected.

Christmas is coming up fast and if you're hoping for a special gift, the Powerball jackpot continues to grow. The next drawing will be Saturday, Dec. 20, just five days before the holiday. There were no winners in the Dec. 17 drawing, sending the estimated jackpot to $1.5 billion, with an estimated cash value of $686.5 million.

The chances of winning the Powerball Grand Prize is much smaller than being struck by lightening, killed in a shark attack, or born on a Leap Day.

Christmas Eve Powerball win in Arkansas nearly broke the record of Edwin Castro of California, who won $2.04 billion Powerball in November 2022.

Murphy gas station at Walmart in Cabot, Arkansas, sold winning ticket in 2025 Christmas Eve Powerball. Final sales pushed the total to $1.817 billion.
